Chennai Man gets Bravery Award from Australian government

Chennai is famous for bravery in many angles and here is a sample of someone from Chennai an NRI getting a bravery award from Australian Government...

A stores supervisor from Chennai is among five Indians who have received bravery awards from the Australian government for their heroic rescue of around 25 injured soldiers from a blast site following a terror attack at Al Kasik in Iraq on August 4, 2008.

For Nagaraj Muthu Kamatchi, 32, presently employed in Nigeria, living on the edge in dangerous places is a way of life.

Along with seven other Indians, all employed in the catering division of the UN army, Mr Nagaraj has worked in cities like Baghdad, Tikrit, Al Kasik and even Karbala.

Sandeep Sherigar from Maharashtra, also a recipient of the Australian bravery award and a colleague of Mr Nagaraj, said that the two, along with Deepak Arondekar from Goa, had gone to the dining hall to have their lunch when a huge blast rocked their building.

“It was around 1.30 pm when we went to the dining hall where around 25 to 30 Australian soldiers were dining. The noise was deafening and there was blood all over the place,” Mr Sandeep said.

“Before we could panic, our head supervisor, Chris Hardley, rushed to help the victims and all four of us joined him,” Mr Sandeep added.

For the next few hours, the four men who had gone to provide civilian assistance were covered in the blood of the injured soldiers. “We did our best to carry whoever we could to a safer place,” said Mr Arondekar.

“I am glad that the Aust-ralian government has remembered us and honoured us with this recognition.”

Back home in Chennai, Mr Nagaraj’s proud mother Bhanumathy recalled her son’s passion for joining a catering course over electronics.

“He was passionate about the profession and that has helped him save many lives when he was working in Iraq,” she said.

Commending the bravery of Mr Nagaraj, the Australian government, in its citation said: “Despite the potential for further terrorist attack following the blasts, Mr Muthu Kamatchi, an untrained civilian, placed his own safety at risk by combing through the wreckage for his critically injured and dying friends and colleagues.

Individually, and with the support of other civilians, Mr Muthu Kamatchi helped move seriously wounded people onto functioning vehicles, and transported them to hospital.

NRIs coming back to India and starting company in chennai

Click here to read the story - Silicon Valley USA immigrants are moving back to the home country - mostly India.

This is the news guys! USA is not friendly about the visa and its immigrant policies are strict that any immigrant Indian can start anything there. In fact it is a good thing for their country, if we stay there - we can create more jobs.

However, things happen for good! Since the other countries are not friendly in their policies, ultimately people come back to their country and they can create more jobs here.

This is what I like - we start companies here in India, in your own state - Tamil Nadu and in your own city - in my case Chennai! Start companies and give more jobs to people.

People should come back to their country and serve their country. Do not settle in some other country. Come back and use your brain here. Invest what you earn outside the country. Use your special knowledge and serve our country.

What is the plan to put up, if an NRI wants to go back to Chennai, India?

You are an NRI or NRM? You always think about your home town, your home country. You are home sick. You are sick of your host country, where you have migrated? You think you will be better off, if you go back to Chennai(your home town or your home country). and do your own business.

If you are an NRI/NRM and wants to go back to Chennai, here is the plan I would suggest:

1) Have an AIM/GOAL written down in a single page. Let it be very short and sweet. Discuss your aim and/or goal with your spouse and children(if more than 10 years old).

2) Have a written personal and business plan, specifying your short-term, medium-term and long-term aims and plans on executing them.

3) Have a risk management plan. that is plan-B. What if, it did not work. Have Plan-C. What if, your plan-a and plan-b did not work!?

4) Build immovable assets, before you return back. For example, buy land or house in Chennai.

5) Have money generating assets in Chennai. For example, you should not be doing much work, but you should be getting some money for running the family. Say - a rent from a house you have rented to somebody else. Say - a rent from a commercial complex in Chennai.

6) Have a huge emergency fund. Deposit it somewhere, so that you either get a monthly income out of it and make sure it is liquid OR it can be a long-term growth deposit.

7) Have a retirement plan and fund it periodically. Have an insurance plan. If anything happens to you, what happens to your family. Be prepared for htat.

8) Have good amount of initial investment money for your business you are starting.

9) Be sure you are hardworking, consistent with your goals. Update your goals and plans as you proceed.

10) Be passionate with what you are doing and what you have planned to do. If you are passionate and if you love what you do, no one can stop you from your SUCCESS.
