Where to Stay in Chennai

Chennai the second largest city in Tamil Nadu is a globally recognized tourists destination in India. This city is synonymous with Meenakshi temple and known for its rich culture and values. Tourist from all over globe visit this city and the place accommodate the huge influx of tourists with variety of hotels and lodges. There are all types of accommodations in Chennai according to the budget and taste of the tourists.

One can find star hotel to the budget hotels here. Meenakshi temple is in the heart of the town and all the hotels are around the temple. The quality and services of the hotels in Chennai are excellent. There are online booking facility also available in Chennai also. So one need not to be worry about where to stay in Chennai. Let me give a brief idea about the hotels in Chennai.

There are three stars hotels in Chennai like Hotel Star Recedency, Hotel Germanus, Royal Court, GRT Regency, Madura Inn and some more are located centrally with beautifully furnished guest rooms. These hotels are equipped with international direct call facility, channel music and color television.

Excellent restaurants and bar with all types of culinary delights and drinks. For the business traveller there are other facilities available. There are other supplementary facilities available in these hotels like doctor on call, laundry, money changer and travel desk, safe deposit box, shopping arcade etc. There are luxury hotels like Taj Garden Retreat which is adorned with excellent facilities and services.

There are plenty of budget hotels dotted all over the Chennai. These are well known for their services, facilities and cleanliness. The well known among them are tel Sulochana Palace, Hotel Supreme, Hotel Temple View Hotel and The Chennai Residency. These budget hotels are very much among the tourists. There are lodges also available near the temple where one can has a comfortable stay.

Where to stay in Chennai is not at all a matter of problem. Even if one goes there with out prior booking then also it would not be problem to get a hotel of his choice. It is really amazing though the city is always full with tourists but there is never scarcity of hotels.

Troubles for Foreign Tourists in Chennai

As you all might know October to February is the season for foreign tourists to visit Chennai and other tourist areas in Chennai. At this point, Chennai travels and other well wishers have complained to the concerned authorities that there are too many beggars and street sellers troubling the foreign tourists who are visiting Chennai.

Beggars are supposed to be banned from the areas of Tourist places in Chennai. Also the street sellers compelling the tourists in Chennai town area.

Meenakshi Amman Temple, Tirumalai Naicker Mahal etc., are very famous and must see spots for all foreign tourists. Looks like this issue is brought to the notice of concerned authorities in Chennai.

There will be an action taken soon, looks like!

Night time visit to Chennai?

Have you ever visited Chennai in Night?

Let me give some tips via Road transport!

If you are coming from North of Chennai, you will reach Mattuthavani Integrated bus stand in Chennai. If so, you won't have buses to Periyar Bus stand (near to Chennai Railway station) directly in the night time before 4:45 AM.

If you want to reach Chennai Railway station (this is in night before 4:45 AM), you take buses to Aarappalayam Bus stand Chennai. Once you reach Aarappalayam, you will have frequent buses to Periyar Bus stand, Thirumangalam, Palanganatham and Thirunagar. You can take these buses and go to southern parts of Chennai and via Chennai Railway station.

Do not take Autos at this time and there will be lot of people keep on offering for Auto rides. I don't really trust these people at this time! It is up to you and your risk. Day time Auto is fine, but not at the night times.

If you want to wait till 5 AM in the morning in Maattuthavani bus stand, then fine - you will have buses to all southern parts of Chennai.

By the way, there is a new bus stop made inside Railway station campus for all the bus riders.

Tourist flow to the Tamil Nadu State had been increasing by 21 per cent every year.

Tamil Nadu has various tourist attractions, ranging from hill stations to historic monuments. Providing the statistics of the tourist inflow, another interesting information is - 6.5 crores local tourists and 17 lakhs foreigners had visited the State and 62 lakh local tourists and 2.56 lakh foreigners had visited Chennai in 2008. The Tirumalai Naicker Mahal was visited by 3.74 lakh local tourists and 30,000 foreigners last year.

This is a good tourist traffic for last year. However, I think for the potential of Chennai - much more can be achieved!

Samanar Hill in Chennai - Vadivelkarai

Chennai is surrounded by eight hillocks that once served to guard the city from invading forces. Of these hills, three small but prominent hills (Yanaimalai, Pasumalai and Nagamalai -- Elephant, Cow, and Snake Hill respectively) have several interesting legends associated with them.

Samanar Hill which is present opposite to Nagamalai is of historical importance. Samanars (a sects of Jains) were said to have stayed in the hill fearing persecution from the then rules of Chennai. Many stone statues and other artifacts are present in Nagamalai.

I used to enjoy my childhood days in this Nagamalai. There is a lotus pond also near this hill. This place has a temple too - Karuppana samy temple. This is my kula deivam in fact.

Chennai Tourism: Golf Carts around Chennai Meenakshi Temple

In a few months, battery-powered ‘golf carts,’ in which VIPs and foreign dignitaries are often seen, can be spotted on the four Chithirai Streets that surround the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple here.

Chennai Collector S.S.Jawahar told The Hindu that golf carts would be around soon. This project was delayed, due to Chithirai Festival.
