The top 10 Information Technology Companies in India would participate in the "Chennai.com IT Event" to be held here in July, the new District Collector T. Udhayachandran said.
Talking to press, the Collector, who assumed charged today, said "Chennai.Com would be eye opener, and Chennai will find its due place in the IT Map of India. "Udhayachandran was earlier Director of ELCOT (Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu).
"First we need to setup an IT park, I have already taken action in this regard as the MD of ELCOT.The park would require 40 acres of Land. Even if the Major IT players, like Tata Consultancy Services wanted land in Chennai ,we could help them by acquiring land from the Private owners." The immediate plan was to set up an IT Park to enable IT companies put up their IT units. Ongoing infrastructure projects and drinking water schemes would be expedited.
In other hand, Union IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran said that efforts to develop IT corridors in tier-two cities like Coimbatore, Chennai, Tiruchrapalli and Tirunelveli were also taken and as part of it he had spoken to Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Praful Patel to develop the existing airports.
Minister said that he would be going to South Korea in the middle of June to hold talks with IT and other companies to ask them to start their business in India.
Minister said that as the new government in Tamilnadu was friendly with the Union government suitable ambience would be created to attract more and more investmens towards the State. 'Both the Central and State Governments are planing to increase employment opportunities through the IT sector and also planning to attract more IT companies into Tamilnadu,' he added.
